The Grand Teton

Hello All,
Still warm sunny weather. Geese where are the blizzards and the -20 degree weather? Here in the park we just celebrated the anniversary of February 9 1933, when the parks lowest temperature of -66 degrees was reported. Yesterday was the beginning of the raven's matting season and on the 27th Ross's Bentgrass may be blooming on thermal areas which are the only places on earth that this grass grows!
I would like to introduce some of my summer photos of 2009 from my many adventures shared with friends and family. Hope you enjoy. Everyone stay warm!

This year the winter months in Yellowstone are not wintry at all. It's really warm! Yesterday it was 31 degrees! There have certainly been morning when I'm heading to work and the sky is devoid of any cloud cover and by the time I get to the snow Lodge my eye lashes are frosted. And we did have one super cold week that the temperatures didn't rise above 10.
The photographs Frozen Lake and Ghost Trees were taken the morning I got to snowmobile around the lower loop. That morning it was very cold, we started out in -10 degree weather which was just perfect, any colder and we would have to stall our trip until the temperature rose. I was happy to have the cold temps that morning. It was one of the few fortunate times I would get to see the park in it's winter glory and I wanted the extreme weather! The mornings when the temperatures are lowest are the best days for shooting, everything is frozen but still erupting with life! ( ha,ha quite literally)
